Helen Padarin is a naturopath, nutritionist, best selling author and speaker. Helen has been in clinical practice for 18yrs, is an ambassador for the Mindd Foundation and co-authored The Complete Gut Health cookbook with Pete Evans, Bubbayumyum with Charlotte Carr and Pete Evans and authored chapters on paediatrics and ASD in clinical textbooks. Passionate about learning from Indigenous communities, and also wanting to give back, Helen partnered with Kama Trudgen of Hope for Health to create TOGETHER Retreat. TOGETHER Retreat is an immersive cross cultural journey that provides a unique and powerful opportunity to pay it forward while learning and healing on a journey hand in hand with indigenous brothers and sisters.
Kama Trudgen is a Medical Doctor who stepped sideways from clinical practice to be immersed in the world of community development. She spent 8 years living on Elcho Island in North East Arnhem Land in a remote Yolngu community. In the process of overcoming heartbreaking fertility issues, Kama discovered the power of nutrition. She now has two beautiful sons! Sharing her families healing foods with a sick Yolngu friend started a chain reaction in the Yolngu community that birthed the Hope for Health program. The program uses experiential education and the framework of the Yolngu traditional diet, to help empower Yolngu people to reclaim their vitality. Kama is passionate about the power and relevance of the wisdom held in traditional cultures, and in bridging the gap between the Yolngu world and the dominant culture.
In this episode we find out:

PAP 61: Rachel Favilla – Periods Poo & Glorious You
Friday Jul 12, 2019
Friday Jul 12, 2019
Today I am joined by Nutritionist Rachel Favilla, author of Periods Poo & Glorious you to discuss an alternative way to approach health and wellness!
If you are over the dogma, the black and whiteness and the downright bullshit of regimes and diets and are ready for a fresh approach that involves FUN & HUMOUR then check out this episode!
Rach says: Howdy Sweet Spuds! I’m Rachie; Nutritionist, Hatha Yoga Teacher, and Author of the playful, cheeky and eclectic ‘health and lifestyle’ (for lack of a better, less-cliched term for such a genre) book; Periods, Poo and A Glorious You. My mission is to demonstrate – through being my daggy, down-to-earth self – that ‘wellness’ (man, is THAT word overused nowadays) needn’t be stereotypical or obligatory. Optimising happiness by nourishing all corners of your life is fun, as is preventing disease by having enough self respect to care for your mind-blowingly loyal body. I’m a food nerd and yoga-addict who proves by example that nurturing one’s self is wildly entertaining and ridiculously gratifying.
You can buy Rachel’s book on our Online Shop

Krissy Ballinger shares some actionable tips for those on a mission to live a natural life free from avoidable toxins. DIY has never been so simple and achievable – even I am going to make the washing powder!
Krissy says:
The Inspired Little Pot was born from my desire to understand and reduce the toxins I was exposing my children to. When I started this journey, it happened quite quickly. Once I learned information about a particular chemical or the contents of a mainstream product, I couldn’t unlearn it.
This led to a whirlwind of research, recipe-experimentation, testing, tweaking and refinement. It didn’t take me long to realise that I was able to achieve almost the same results with recipes made from natural ingredients as I was from the mainstream products I used to buy. Yes, I was putting in a little more effort than when I was visiting the supermarket beauty and cleaning aisles, but I was (and still am) okay with that. It is so worth it. Plus, I now know we simply need less, and we save so much money.
The Inspired Little Pot is more than a business or a brand. It’s about awareness, education, and empowerment, it’s about simplicity, a natural existence and thriving health. We want to spread this message far and wide: let’s be conscious consumers and advocate for our health, and for the health of future generations from whom we borrow this planet; let’s not wait for someone else to create change, let’s stand up and do it for ourselves.
You can fine Krissy’s website here: www.theinspiredlittlepot.com.au and follow her on social media as The Inspired Little Pot.

PAP 59: Bek Daley – I Hate Cooking!
Friday Jun 14, 2019
Friday Jun 14, 2019
Clean living is amazing right? You can transform how you look and feel JUST by changing what is on the end of your folk!
But….it’s so bloody time consuming! All of that shopping, planning, prepping, chopping, cooking…with no guarantee that the kids will even eat it!
That means that maintaining this kind of lifestyle can be just way too stressful and overwhelming for many.
There are working Mums running in the door at 7pm, starting to make dinner from scratch. There are women struggling with health conditions trying to muster the energy to cook for the family…yet again!
Bek Daley has spent her life helping others. She is a Mum from Brisbane QLD and founder of I H8 Cooking!
Bek has a national network of home cooks who come to your home and cook, like a cleaner comes and cleans.
I have been following Bek out of professional interest – after all she has created a vaguely similar model to my Primalista Baking Licence. This is a model where women who love cooking with their Thermomix, can earn an income by helping others.
When I saw she had a cook in Albany, where I live – I had to give it a whirl! All I can say is. – life changing! I didn’t realise how much I needed an extra hand. Having an I H8 Cooking Cook come to my house once a fortnight has given me space to breath and heal and my freezer is full of amazing primal aligned meals ready to go.
This isn’t an advertisement for I H8 Cooking at all – this isn’t sponsored. This is just a company I love and I wanted to interview founder Bek to see how she started her biz and how it works to share with you.
I hope that this will inspire you to get started on that dream of yours, or will help you get some assistance with the daily household chores.
You can find out more about I H8 Cooking here.
On their website you can check out their menus, there are lots of primal and low carb options and you can specify if you have special dietary requirements.
You can even find out more about joining the I H8 Cooking team!
To find out about Primal Alternative and to browse our range and learn more about becoming a Primalista head here: www.primalalternative.com
You can also follow them on Facebook and follow your local I H8 Cooking Cook!

PAP 57: Jo Whitton – Healthy life, happy balance and asking for help
Friday May 17, 2019
Friday May 17, 2019
Jo Whitton ladies and ladies! Does she need any introduction? If you are like me and most of the people I know the words Quirky Cooking will have been lovingly recommended to you by a fellow Thermomix owner or healing foods friend – right?
I am so grateful to Jo for providing not only providing delicious easy to prepare family-friendly meals but also for creating a community of fellow Quirkies in the Quirky Cooking Chat Group. Jo is real and sincere, open and honest, ethical and caring and she makes herself available for support and advice helping many on their journey to reclaiming their health.
But, she also has four kids and a healing journey of her own and her kid’s healing journeys too! So how on earth does she do it? How does she have the energy and drive to keep showing up on our social media feeds day after day for over ten years?
Toward the end of last year Jo gave me permission to get some help around the home so that I could free up my time to spend doing what I am good at – being with my family and working on my business Primal Alternative. There is some resistance around us women asking for help, paying for help. We are almost considered less noble if we do. But at what cost? I was trying to do all the things and keep all the plates spinning at the cost of my own health and stress levels.
So I invited Jo onto the show to share her secrets of success without burn out and to give you the permission to get the help you need in your life. Whatever that may look like for you.
Jo Whitton lives with her family in Far North Queensland, Australia, where she runs Quirky Cooking from home and enjoys the country life. Growing up, Jo struggled with health issues such as frequent colds, histamine reactions, tummy upsets, food intolerances, blood sugar fluctuations, hormone problems, acne, and being chronically underweight. As she got older her health grew worse, and her children also began to have similar issues. Jo began researching ways to improve their health through diet, experimenting with alternate ingredients and allergy-friendly versions of family favourites. Their health began to improve, and in 2008 she began her blog, Quirky Cooking, to share the recipes she was developing. In May 2014 she published her best-selling Quirky Cooking cookbook with Thermomix in Australia, and began to teach healthy cooking seminars in Australia and overseas.
However, in June 2014, Jo felt like she hit a brick wall. Despite all the work she’d done to heal her family, her son Isaac’s health (13 yrs old at the time) suddenly went downhill. He descended into anxiety and severe OCD, and Jo realised that they had really just been treading water with an allergy-friendly diet, and they urgently needed to address the root cause of the health problems they’d been facing over the years – poor gut health. They embarked on a journey to heal Isaac through the GAPS protocol (GAPS: Gut and Psychology Syndrome). Within weeks they saw massive changes, not only in Isaac’s health, but also in Jo’s health and the health of the whole family. Within a year, Isaac was off all medication and living a normal life, Jo’s health had completely turned around and she had gained a healthy weight, and the family no longer struggled with food reactions.
Jo shares their family’s journey and interviews parents and practitioners with experience in natural healing in her podcast ‘A Quirky Journey’, along with her co-host, whole food chef Fouad Kassab. In 2017, Jo and Fouad published a best-selling cookbook called ‘Life-Changing Food’, and together they hold seminars and cooking demonstrations around Australia to share the importance of eating a healing, whole food diet. Jo also has an online program called Quirky Cooking for Gut Health, to support people working through the GAPS Intro diet.
You can find Jo at Quirky Cooking (the blog), and on Facebook, Instagram, the Podcast, and the Gut Health Program. Jo and Fouad’s cookbook, Life-Changing Food, is available online here, or from many health food stores and bookstores.

PAP 56: Shelley McKenzive – How to Create Freedom in your Wellness
Friday May 03, 2019
Friday May 03, 2019
Have you ever felt like you aren’t doing this whole wellness gig properly? Or tried a super strict regime only to fall off the wagon by Thursday lunchtime? What if you could actually create balance with your nutrition and successfully implement the 80/20 rule without it spiraling into yet another sugar binge?
On this show, I interview Shelley McKenzie from Freedom Wellness to share with us some actionable tips about how to maintain good health whilst still enjoying the pleasures that life has to offer! Hoorah for that!
Shelley Mckenzie is qualified Nutritionist, and soon to be Naturopath, passionate about using food first to heal the body. She hopes that by sharing knowledge and passion, she will inspire you to make healthy and positive changes in all areas of your life.
Shelley practices nutrition out of Vida Lifestyles in Sandringham Melbourne, alongside the amazing Dr. Damian Kristof and co-host Dr. Jess Naughton. She also offers comprehensive online wellness programs as well as a popular blog, where she creates and shares three healthy recipes a week to help you on your journey.
After experiencing her own sudden health storm in 2013, leading to an autoimmune diagnosis. Shelley took it upon herself to learn to listen to the screams and whispers of her body and heal using the power of food. Since then Shelley has continued to practice what she now preaches, whilst learning along the way that happiness is a large part of health. So finding the perfect balance between health and enjoyment is essential. She lives a clean life but still loves dining out regularly especially when an espresso martini is involved.
She believes Freedom Wellness is a support system for all things health and wellness. And says “my mission is to empower & inspire women to heal their mind, body & soul with greater insight into what gives them true balance and wellbeing!”

PAP 52: Karen Martel – What to do when Keto isn’t working
Friday Mar 08, 2019
Friday Mar 08, 2019
I’ve invited my Nutritionist friend Karen Martel onto my show again to explore all things Keto, fasting and caloric restriction – when you are doing all the right things and it’s just NOT happening. In episode 43 I interviewed Karen about weight loss resistance – it really is a thing! If you haven’t checked that out already, maybe go back and listen after this one?
What’s going on there?
If you are between the ages of 35 and 55 you are starting to, or already feel, the effects of hormonal imbalance in your body.
Your weight has been starting to climb
Your belly fat is growing
You feel like you are on a hormonal roller-coaster
You feel tired more often than not
Your sex drive is low or non-existent
Your brain is foggy
You feel depressed
You exercise and eat well but still can’t lose weightThis is the wonderful world of hormones! Unfortunately, when our hormones are involved or I should say NOT involved in the right way, weight loss becomes impossible!
Karen has an excellent program called On Track and I highly recommend you check it out here.
We will cover hormones, insulin resistance, keto pitfalls, fasting and much more!
